Ok so I have had to run my d17 with the choke on since it had no air filter or filter canister caver and was sucking huge amounts of air, My filter will be in today and I have made a new canister cap.. So my question is.. should this fix the issue as to having to run it with that choke open? and would it be a good Idea to clean the carb also? or am I wrong and this was never the issue and there is something else causing me to have to run the choke open?

It should run just fine without the filter. Don`t run without because of getting dirt in the motor. Need to soak the carb and rebuild.
