I had posted a few days ago for help with loader hydraulics on my new/old D17 IV. I have another question.
The tractor has a single remote set of outlets. I read in the manual that a 3 spool (or is it a 4 spool?) valve was an option to give two remotes, plus the regular ram, etc. If I wanted to add a second set of remotes, I assume I would have to locate the new control valve set as well? Are these extremely difficult to find (say off a salvaged 170, 180, etc), or is there a way to purchase an additional off-the-shelf additional valve to add to what I have? My idea is with a second remote, I could just use the tractor controls directly for the loader and bucket controls, instead of the way it is now using the remote lever wired open, with the loader having its own separate two hydraulic controls. In principle, I would prefer the two remotes on the tractor, but I don't know how involved it would be to break into the current hydraulics to set up an additional set of remotes. |

If you want the 2nd remote set, you'll need to add the valve in the "stack"...and related linkages/levers on the quardrant all of which are a duplicate of the 1st remote.
IIRC, the stud where the existing lever is mounted is also long enough for the extra valve lever.
Some things to consider........
Be careful when disassembling the stack. There are very small springs and poppet valves in there. Best to have a clean workbench with a towel or cloth so that things don't take a hike for the netherworld.
Replace all the o'rings while it's all apart.
You'll need the longer threaded bolts that hold the stack together (I think the difference is 1.5 " longer)
You'll also need the lines that go from the valve to the back-side of the triangular plate; plus whatever is required for your quick-connects to mount in the plate.
There are leather seals in the original swivel connectors at the valve outlets....I was never able to find these and ended up modifying the swivel fittings for o'rings.
I got a valve from a 170 for my D17 IV....but they didnt have the lines, so I had to make them up from something that was close....mighta been a D19 or 190, can't remember for sure. I have some pix if you'd like to see more about it.

We put a dual remote valve up on the front- mounted on the loader frame. Cheap. D17 IV. Don't touch your AC hydraulic valves.

Stan,
Just so I understand, does that mean that you hooked a set of hoses into the single remote outlet to feed the loader? If so, you must have wired up the control lever to be on all the time? |

If you can wait, I will be going to my fathers farm next weekend (April 23rd) and I can take a few photos and draw up a sketch on how we hooked up the hoses to run our loader. I sent you a private message with my e-mail. e-mail me back and I will get you the info by the 25th of April. The way we hooked it up allows use of the rear 3 point hitch arms and the loader without relying on any relief valves (and the clutch engaged or not engaged!!). The side mounted pump has lots of power and we can fill a full bucket of heavy soil and lift it with ease.
We bought a separate dual control valve assembly and mounted it up on the frame on the bucket (we reach out to the right to run it at maybe shoulder level as one sits on the seat). |

You can use the valve from a D17IV-170-180-190-200-6060-6080-6070 and 7000. I would not use one from a 7000 because they are mounted with the stim up and dirt collects around them wearing them out to where they leak. New orings won't stop the leak. MACK
