One item of note, I work at a power plant so we have welder certification where they must weld 'coupons' for tests, a wire feed weld does not penetrate as well and has not got the same ductility of a stick weld, that is it won't flex as well and is proven every time we do weld coupon destructive tests.  You want a good pliable high strength weld use stick, for general purpose use wire.
