Does anyone reproduce the guide rings for WC front steel wheels or what are the options if they are missing? Thanks

Lonnie, your taxing a very old brain here. I believe a gentleman by the name of Rod Raether from Howell, MI does stuff like that. He was at Dales show in Paris, IL in 2009 with a WD45 on half tracks, and I know he he got into some really creative fabrication stuff for old tractors. He actually had a binder with pictures on display with some of his work and capabilities. Maybe someone here knows him, or knows what he can do.

They are rolled angle iron, two sections per wheel. A good steel fab shop should be able to roll them for you to fit your rims. Another option might be to get a set from another scrap steel wheel of the same diameter. Doesn't have to be Allis as long as the diameter is the same.

Thanks guys, reason I'm asking is I found another set of steel for a WC but the guides are gone and one other thing is the rim has been replaced and they cut the spokes off half way up and welded the new ones on, only problem is the new spokes are about an 1/8" smaller in diameter than the old ones and I'm not sure I want to spend anything on a set like that although they would just go on a yard ornament tractor so it's probably that big of deal, I just have to keep the correct police out of my yard.

Lonnie,
I had a set bent locally a couple of years ago. I'll have to check the dimensions of the angle iron but I think it was 3/8ths inch stock. Not everyone can role that heavy of material. The machine shiop here rolled it in one peice but doing so in two would be much easier. Let me know if you need more info. |
