ok i went and looked at a D-17 the s/n makes it a 62 narrow front end power steering great sheet metal good tires and one rim is rotted out at the valve stem all foot pedals are froze up including hi/lo leaver and i pulled the dip stick on the engine and water ran rite out! and this unit didnt have 3pt. i asked the guy what he wanted for it and he said $1000 iasked then if he would take any thing less he said make an offer so i said 500 n he said its worth more to put it in the dumpster do you think its worth the 1000 or not? thanks allis6080

Sounds like you're looking at a parts machine. Frozen pedals aren't so bad, but the power director lever not movable might be serious. Was there any water in the trans? If there is, I would probably part it. Good fenders for D series are hard to find. I might go $800. You could probably get your money out of it still. |

If you are parting it, and it has good fenders pm me please?! AS far as what I would give him, what you offered is about what he would get for iron price, maybe slightly more, but then remind him, that he has to do all the work to get it to the iron man, where as for about the same money, you will do all the work.

I don't think the scrap yard pays much for water. Sounds like a money pit unless you plan on parting it out.

Nope $800 tops. You still have to take all the "stuff" off advertise, haggle and ship assuming you part it out. You have to assume worst case on the engine and tranny.

If it is the older power steering (pump between the dist and governator) let me know if you buy it to part out. Someday I would like to have the luxury of PS. .....hay I can dream you know.
cheers,
Creek

If the gearshift boot is torn and/or the trans fill cap missing, the tranny is probably junk because of rainwater.

Actually, I need so many parts, if you decide to go that way, let me know, if you decide to pass on it, let me know that too.
Thanks,
Anthony

I thought my d17 for $1250. was a bargain, but $1000. for a parts tractor seems like a little much. The scrap yards I do business with would only pay tops $155.00 a ton tops for it has to be downsized.

I've seen complete "running" engines on ebay for around $750.00, not suer if that is the right way to go, I don't think I would charge that much depending on how much stuff was still bolted to it?
