Ya have an adapter plate made. I think Johnny Cash got his from JC Whitney for the 49,50,51,52 psycobilly Cadillac, but you won't find one to fit you needs.
Really you would have to figure out how thick the adapter plate needed to be, put in a bolt pattern for the Allis housing and hopefully the engine mounting holes would be on a different pattern. That plate will probably cost about as much as buying a running replacement engine. Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 17 Mar 2011 at 4:06pm |

What happens if a guy would machine out the centers on both flywheels and weld the appropriate center on the wd flywheel? Could it be balanced? Then use an internally balanced v8. Would the wd starter have enuf umf to crank it? Then an adapter plate from motor to bell housiong is a snap.

I believe that a 390 ford will bolt right in. years ago a guy had one that he pulled with. if memory serves i think he used the wd flywheel.

You need the WD flywheel and clutch and a custom made adapter plate, usually a 1/4 inch plate is adequate. From there the big trick is getting the bolt circles the same so everything lines up. Most likely the installation of a V8 will require some frame modifications. The last two that one of my friends did were 353 Detroits. He had to widen the frame by 4 inches to get it to fit.

The owner of the tractor in picture above is standing in between the mufflers with black hat. He is a machinist and makes the adaptor and the flyweel adaptor. EXCELLENT work ,we purchased one for my son's WC. I don't remember his name but he lives close to HUTCH. |

I personally like the way the hydraulic pump mounts where the flat belt pulley mounts. never seen this but sure a good idea. still say get a backing plate from a combine equipped with a chevy engine.

While an overhead valve V8 is the easiest and cheapest engine to choose, I like the vintage look of an old Ford flathead V8 in these kind of conversions. They also have a very unique sound to them.
