 Topic: allis b with cast iron pans

HI, is my allis B with the cast iron valve cover, oil pan and final drive pans worth anymore than a B with steel pans ? what years did they use cast pans ?

I believe the cast parts were used on the war models if I'm not mistaken which would have been 1942 & 1943 models. The cast parts sell for more than the steel parts for sure.

It could make it worth $150-$250 more than one with steel parts. The cast parts are not terribly difficult to find, you might have to wait for a buyer if you wanted to get top price.

15 years or so back I bought two C's with the cast iron covers and pans. I had the same thought. I figured I had something special until I went to several auctions and found that there were a bunch of them out to be had and no one was paying more for them. The bidders were still taking the over all conditon into account when bidding on the B's and C's with the cast iron covers and bringing less in several cases in my area.
You might get a few dollars more to a collector that was actuall looking for a B or C with the cast iron covers. They are not rare around here at any rate.

From the perspective of being rare, Dick's assessment is right on point. I have a number of sets I have purchased over the years, but my primary purpose was to attain a better gasket surface. The cast iron to cast iron surface you get vs the standard stamped tin with a steel lip is infinitely better. Cast does not warp or twist.
It appears there was one style of valve cover and final drive cover built, but three distinct and different designs for the cast iron oil pan. One of these designs is more common and easier to find than the other two, but I wouldn't call any of them rare.

I too have a B with cast iron valve cover and oil pan. I put them on to just make it a little more unique, but I don't know if it makes it worth any more money. I would really like to find a set of cast iron final drive covers if any one has a set they would like to sell let me know.

I'm of the opinion that the tractors came with the "set" as cast iron, but with A-C, you can't be sure. Some Power Units came with the cast pan and cast valve cover as well.
