Hello all,
Yesterday I was at work and a men told he had an Allis Chalmers B. He didn't sell it but had cagewheels for this B. Does someone know if these wheels are original Allis Chalmers? Thanks, ![]() |

These particular wheels in the picture were not factory Allis wheels. Allis did make steel wheels for the B during the War years, but they did not look like this.

I would call them stalk choppers. How wide are they? They look to be about a foot wide. What kind of rims are the narrow tires mounted on? Could they be 2 piece rims? (split rims) for 37 & early 38 Bs. They don't appear to have drop centers. Not enough showing to have to ask.

I was not seeing the picture correctly. I thought it was a leaning stack of rings like things.

Funny but the bolt patern is 5 the cast wheels lying beside show what look like the std 6 bolt jobs.
BTW what year did the B change to the C style 5 bolt axle flange?

What year did the B "Change" to the C style 5 bolt flanged axle and C wheels?
I don't think they actually "changed". According to the parts books they became available as a option as early as B 18055 (1940) to go along with the wide 40" to 68" adjustable front axle. A note states - Originally used intermittently on Tr. B12585 to B18055.
During this time I believe more Bs using the 5 bolt wheel were running the splined 5 bolt adapter hubs. I haven't seen any of these pre war Bs with the 5 bolt flanged axles. The C/B deep dish hub is the same bolt patern as the semi-dished reversable 5 bolt wheel used with the splined adapter hubs.
It would not be all that hard a job to swap out final drive assemblies from a post war to a pre war B to get the wide tread width
If you look at B adjustable front axles used 1940 and after They list 2 types. 38" to 60" Prior to 1942 and 40" to 65" year 1942 and after. I would assume the wider version was to be used used with the C/B deep dish reversable rear wheels.
Those hubs pictured are 5 bolt C/B No C or B ran 6 bolt hubs

I just had a flash of unusual memory recall. I (think I remember) seeing those type of wheels on tractors that were used in the black soft muck to hold the tractor up with out sinking down.

Having a set of steel like that on a B or C would be something you won't see everyday unless it was your tractor. Them aftermarket wheels are definitly different. I wonder how many sets there are in this world. What other tractors have that 5 hole pattern? I wouldn't mind owning a set.

Ken, you're right! my confusion stems frrom the set of rims and tires I bought a while back, they had 6 bolt centres that I torched out and then welded tabs to the rims to fit the cast wheel (with the tapered spline hubs) of my B. I think I posted that procedure back in '08 or '09. The six bolt centres I cut out were found to be a perfect match to the hubs of my '88 Chevy Z71 . My son said I shoulda mounted the wheels and tires on the Chevy and taken pictures, where was he before I lit up my torch!
I have an excellent memory but it's VERY short!
