262D Conn Rods-Using 230 Gas ones & Oil Passage ?

   Guys-I'm still working on using the block of a 230G to make a 262D....and I am just looking for a 2nd opinion here.

I noticed that the connecting rods from the 230 gas (these are the ones I planned on using) has the oiling of the piston pin setup to occur with just a small hole on the top end of that end of the connecting rod.  

I was looking at another rod from a 262D and it is setup to gain oil via a drilled hole from the rod journal as it is drilled through from the rod end to the piston pin end.  I see my connecting rod bearings are also setup with "both" holes.  Note that the part number in the Agco book shows these are interchangeable and the 262D and the 230G rod is imprinted with the same 4500141 part number.

Should I use the 230G rods as is? (I don't have a good set of 262D rods).
Should I have the 230G rods drilled with the same hole going from bore to bore that I saw in the 262D rod?

	Terry, When I rebuilt my 262D, I had one bad connecting rod and got a rod from All State Ag (Downing Tractor) that came out of a D19 and they looked the same. I don't know if the rod came from a gas or diesel. Good luck. Kraig

	The diesel rod I looked at was from an early 262D (1961?). Does anybody have a newer 262D tore apart and could look at the connecting rods and tell me if their diesel has just the hole on top of the wrist pin hole or does it get oil from the connecting rod journal port? Thanks in advance, Terry

	My D19 has the rifle drilled rods. I took a gas 262 out of a combine and used the block in my D19 diesel. The combine rod bearings were excellant, the D19 Diesel rod bearings were not so good. I want to use the gas rods with thier bearings in the diesel, since the gas rod were not rifle drilled , I wound up using the diesel rods with the gas bearings, worked ok. HTH
