I have my wc nearly ready to paint but need advice. Should I paint the inside of the frame rails, the engine, sides of the pedestal and trany seperate or should I assemble it and paint all at once? I don't know if paint would get to the sides of the bellhousing and insides of the frame rails. Do I need a gasket between the frame and bellhousing where the belt pulley goes? I know about the seal.

It is way easier to paint the further dis-assembled it is. Nothing wrong with painting just the areas you think would be hard to paint and get coverage, partly assembling the parts you think might get chipped or nicked and then painting, that works, too. No matter, you will have a few spots to touchup , no matter what , even if it is only bolt heads and nuts. No gasket that I know of .

I recently painted my WD puller and painted each side frame off (one at a time) with a spray rattle can and bell housing where it's covered by the side frames. Even if the shade of orange is off, you will cover it good enough when you paint it assembled to look good and you absolutely know everything has paint on it.

Anytime paint can be applied with a "wet coat" it is much easier to clean dust dirt and grime from it. What often happens when a tractor is painted as a complete assembly is that many surfaces are not thoroughly painted, but rather just gets some overspray on them. The oversprayed areas, when dry, fell like rough sandpaper and tend to hold dust and dirt, where a smooth painted area can be cleaned with little effort. My recommendation is to paint it in as many pieces as you are willing to do.

Thad, there is a cork gasket that goes between the housing and the frame
