Any ideas on how to check on the reputation of an equipment dealer. Looking at a used tractor at out of state dealer. I'm not sure this forum is the place to spell out dealer's name etc.., so looking for other ways. When buying something used I realize risk is on me - so to know you're dealing with a straight shooter or not, means something. Going to try and get previous owners name to call. Any thoughts on how to try and protect yourself a bit. Appreciate any help

If your just looking for a dealers reputation I wouldnt be afraid to ask here. This group has most of the country covered. Now if you have a problem with a business this would not be the place to bring it up.

call the previous owner and lay your own eyes on it or take some along who knows the machinery. there are lots of good dealers who fairly represent their stuff, but unless the owner was honest when he traded it still could be bad. Even dealing with a honest guy you want to look at it yourself. Good luck

Post the dealers name, we can help. The dealer usually onlyknows what the previous owner told them. they may be able to tell you if the are a good maintainance farm or ride equipment hard. If tractor has a problem developing and the old owner never said anything, the dealermay not know it. They sell it to you and it breaks, it's not really their fault. A good dealer may help you out with lower parts/repair costs. A bad dealer will let you eat the whole cost. We can't help you if we don't know who the dealer is. If it's a bad dealer, Iwould post on here "use caution",then PM you the reason.

I would be hesitant to tell them you are a long way off. It's easier to ignore phone calls then someone face to face if there is a problem. That said, everybody else has given good advice in my opinion.
