what if AC would have made a wd45 a 5 in stroke instead of the 4.5 what could it have done good or bad you choose is there a way to do a math problem to figure this type of stuff out to what displacement it would be and horse power and torque it could have been

I really like the 226 engines, but my personal opinion is that they should have dropped a 230 6 cylinder gas in there instead. Would have given them some more weight up front as well.

It would be 251 cid if my math is correct. I did see a WC puller that had a 5" stroke and a 4.25" bore. Best I remember they had to grind relief areas in the block to swing 5". |

AC did make a 4.00" bore X 5.00" stroke engine for the model "F" prototype tractors. These were extensively tested in the mid fourties time frame as a replacement for the UC tractors. The engine made 40hp @ 1450 RPM's. I don't know what the compression ratio of that engine was but I would assume around 6:00:1 ratio given the common 74 octane fuel commonly used in those days. The 5" crankshaft was used with the W201 block. Engineering did a lot of testing on these engines so I'm sure there were issues with vibration, bearing life and fuel efficiency.

You would have a 10% increase in displacement, so a roughly 10% increase in HP would put you at about 50 on the PTO in stock trim, but the potential would be more than that with minor modifications.

Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.
