I have the newer style plow drawbar, and I was wondering what the piece that extends forward from the drawbar was for. It's number 8 in this parts diagram (that I stole from another post, sorry) and has a hole in the end.

I don't have a good close-up of it, but you can tell that it's been cut off in my picture.

Number 8 is the drawbar assembly. I think the piece your talking about connects to the depth control lever.

CTucker, it is part of the drawbar assembly. It's all one piece, but if you're sitting on the tractor and you look down, there would be that "extension" on the left side that sticks out. That's what I'm wondering about - I think it hooks to something, but I've never seen what it's for. It's obviously not important for plowing.

I do not know why that side is extended.

So far, I have not found an implement that uses it, but there has got to be something out there...

Allis engineers would not have just wasted that material, would they?

So now I have a question. How does the depth control hook to the drawbar?

Depth control hooks up to the piece that comes up at an angle from the middle of the round stock at the front of the drawbar. You can kind of see it in the photo of my B.

Charlie,

if you drew a line from the number 1 and the number 8 on the diagram (the actual number, not the piece they refer to), it would cross very near the hole that is where the depth adjustment hooks on the drawbar....

OK, now I got it. I thought you were asking about the piece on the front middle of the drawbar that angles up. Now I see the extension of the left side must be what you where referring to.

Yeah, I should have described it more clearly. Either piece could have fit my first description. Sorry about that!

On this C the depth lever is behind the operator....if you look close you can follow the linkage.

I was told one time (not sure how true this is) that the extension on the plow draw bar was somehow used with the lister/bedder attachment? Not sure if thats the case as I have never seen one or a parts book/diagram for one.

I figure it has to be for something like that... maybe Bill Long knows?
