temp gauge on Model B |

I pulled the temperature gauge from my B because even though it still
works, the face is unreadable. I should mention that it looks like the
previous owner replaced the radiator with an aftermarket one. I ordered a
new gauge from Steiner, which won't come close to fitting. They have
been very gracious throughout this, BTW. They say they have sold
countless models of this temp gauge to B owners without any complaints.
Does anyone know what I have and what I need. The threads are slightly
different, in case you can't tell from the photos. The pretty gauge is
the new Steiner unit, and the ugly one is what was on the tractor.
I need to know what the original gauge is, so I get another. Thanks for any help!

The Steiner one looks like the "correct" one.....
Go on eBay and buy a used thermostat housing to replace yours... They probably re-tapped it when they put that one in that you had.

I agree with Glenn. The Steiner guage is correct. The old one probably is an industrial application and has 1/2 inch pipe threads.

Thanks guys. What about the long copper/brass piece on the Steiner gauge that's not on the mystery gauge? Steiner suggested that the old gauge may have had the same feature and it's now stuck inside the radiator. I can't see it but I don't know if I'd be able to. Any thoughts?

Replacing the waterneck/thermostat housing will show you if there's something stuck in it and it won't matter 'cause putting the new one on will solve the problem. Surely someone on here, closer than I am, has one they can sell you for a reasonable price. |
