I've looked at all the D-17s posted on "show us your D series" thread and I don't see one with the pie weights. The D-17 I bought a year ago came with a set. Are they fairly rare? It would appear to be.
Also, One of the WD-45s I bought a few years ago came with the flat front weights, but only two instead of three. I always thought a "set" for the 45s was three.
I notice that a lot of the D-17s have sets of four front weights. Is that the the number they would have come with or could you order however many you wanted?

I have a 1959 D-17 Diesel with a set of pie weights on it but I don't have a picture I can post right now. Where in NY are you Brian? I'm in Waterloo which is right between Syracuse & Rochester. Hopefully sometime you can stop over. Don Jr.

d17 had 4 pie weights on the rear, so did the D15, D19 were shaped a bit different and came with 6. 4 is all you can fit on a D17 and D15 due to rim/tire size

there were 2 different syles of pie weights on a D17 one set for the tractors prior to the series 3 which I would say are the more rare ones. then there is the set that fits from d17 series 3 through the 180 and those pie weights are a little easier to come by.
the front stack weights I believe you could get the mounting brackets for the wd45 for either 2 or 3 stack weights, also for the D15-19 you could get different brackets for either 3 or 4 weights |

Thanks Matt, that's good info; mine's a series II so they must be the rarer ones.
The casting number is AM-4493 and they weigh about 75 lbs. each.
Don, Jr., I live 10 miles south of Cobleskill.....50 Miles west of Abany. I don't go that far west very often, but if I do get out that way, I will certainly look you up. Thanks

We have 2 sets of these pie weights. I also bought 2 individual weights at an auction last fall that are a little different. They have the same casting number except for the number after the dash. I am guessing that they are the later ones. These 2 weights are for sale if anyone is looking for just 2.

One of you guys with the earlier style D-17 pie weights should send pictures to Brian Ahart for his website. Last time I looked there, he had the later 17 weights, but not the early style. dave

Our pie weights on the 15 are #AM 4485 about 60 lbs and the ones we just got for the 200 are #AM 5052-2 about 80 lbs. I remember only one neighbor having them on a 17 when they were "new". I remember several sets on 190's in the day. But, we used the weights off the WD's on our 17's and the donut style on the 190/200 that we owned. We had to find two, three or four at a time untill we had full set of both pie weights.

Yes, if anyone has pictures of the early D17 sectional weights they want to submit (especially a shot of the casting number), I would be happy to add them to my website. I always credit the person submitting the photo(s).
Brian G. NY, thanks for posting the casting number. On another note, I have yet to add the following weights to my website. If anyone has pictures (including casting numbers) they would like to submit, please let me know: * Hundred series front STARTER weight (the big one) * Model G triangular front weight Thanks, Brian |

My weights are being temporarily "stored" on top of a stonewall about 250 yards off the road and covered with about 18" of snow so I won't be taking pics of them right away.
If no one has submitted pics by the time I can get to them, I will take some pics myself.
Brian Ahart, I refer to your site regularly; thanks a lot for setting it up!!

I found a picture of my D-17 after I bought it but before I got it running to bring it home. The weights were on it at the time. I don't know whether or not they were supposed to be orange originally.

Well, I dug a path up and dug out one of those weights.
The number on this one looks like AM-4493 and I believe that is correct; no suffix. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Brian G. NY - 20 Jan 2011 at 4:06pm |

Any idea on a ballpark price on them?? I have a set of them that came with a 17 that I bought. Just curious as to how good of a deal I made.

Brian G., thank you for the great photos. I would also venture to say that these are not as plentiful as the later sectionals, at least in my experience. I'll be adding these to my website soon (as well as a few others in my queue). I'm glad you have found the site useful.
Dan, the later sectionals tend to sell in the $350-$400 range. |

That makes sense; actually pretty obvious. LOL My D-17 is a series II.
