Absolutely no where on the gear case to check or add gear lube, I figured a 45 year old snowblower just might need a flush with fresh gear lube.
Four bolts hold the gear case to the blower then another two bolts at the output flex connector, four small bolts secure the top cover to the case. After the cover bolts have been removed gently tap on all sides of the cover to loosen the gasket. Gasket is made from cork, the case was full of gear lube with some thick looking snot chunks, tomorrow I'll finish cleaning out the old gunk with solvent and compressed air. Once the old lube had been drained and collected into an old pail I diluted the lube with solvent then tossed in a magnet checking for iron. No iron has stuck to the magnet so I'm probably good to reassemble using the old bearings and seals. A visual inspection of the bevel gears shows no nicks or chips. ![]() ![]() |

Being impatient did some research on my own, the Simplicity snowblower has a non vented gear case that uses the following products. There maybe more that I may have missed.
SHELL GADUS S2 V220 00 also found a product from Amsoil EP 00 and it looks like a 90 wt can be substituted. The above lubricants are used in some rototillers like the Landpride and most walk behind. http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/grease/semi-fluid-00-synthetic-ep-grease/ AMSOIL Semi-Fluid Synthetic EP Grease resists water and provides superior protection against corrosion and oxidation that can destroy critical components and lead to equipment failure. Personally I would stick with the manufactures recommended lubricant. |

Found this when researching something similar earlier this year for rototillers and snow blowers. Price is reasonable compared to others I found. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/super-s-cotton-picker-spindle-grease-00

I just got off the phone with NAPA and they stock a similar Pennzoil 00 grease, same price. Edited by rustydollar - 25 Sep 2017 at 9:30am |
