I have 2 vehicles ( a G & a 41chevy pickup) with 6 volt batteries & it seems like the batteries only last a year or two. they are not driven much maybe twice a month at the most. Are you experiencing similar battery lifes ?

Put a battery charger/maintainer on them since they are not used much and you should have them for many years.

One trick to long battery life is when purchasing, learn to read the date codes and pick the most recent date code off the back of the rack. Batteries do not improve sitting around. Then the battery maintainer is very beneficial.

Try to purchase a good battery charger in order to really make things work out on your vehicle's needs. Brands like ctek and others can give you the parts that you may need in order to really help you productive.

Be sure to check the acid level often ! Once it get close to the plates, the battery won't last long, below(top of plates get dried) and the battery is gone !
Always have a 'trickle charger' plugged in once the battery is fully charged.
Disconnect battery from the vehicle when not in use...
Keep it warm in winter !

Sulfate on plates kills them and 2 years seems to be life for some reason on 6V and some heavy duty 12V as well Use to be some additaves that helped also to slow sufate. but the maintainers seem to do the job now.
Just looked up a deal on epsom salts and kind of good articles on battery life on this link .

Electroyte level (always refill with distilled water, drinking water isn't good enough) is important and IT WILL GO DOWN on any tractor not using a full voltage regulator. Water will be dissociated by overcharging from the tractor with just the cutout and the field current adjusted by the light switch and the third brush. Such a tractor worked hard may need battery water as often as once a week.

The only 6 volt battery I've had much luck with is one of those Optima coiled ones. They are about twice the price but so far have lasted 4 times as long. Just my experience, others may not be as lucky.
