Did AC ever sponsor anything besides the Loretta Lynn thing? I know NASCAR was really popular in the 70's and 80's and I was surprised to notice not a single farm equipment company as a sponsor. One would think it would be an easy form of advertising but I don't think I've ever seen an AC billboard picture or any other type of advertising like TV commercials.
I played around and came up with an AC race car. I drew it first and then went back over it and made it look A LOT better. Would've been nice to see one of these decorated like this. Oh yeah, BONUS POINTS if you can tell me what model and year range the car is (model should be easy). BEFORE (JUST A QUICK SKETCH TO GET IDEAS ON PAPER) ![]() AFTER SOME EDITING AND ADJUSTMENTS ![]() HOPE YOU ENJOY AND I HOPE THIS MAKES YOU THINK OF WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN. Definitely a 71-74 Charger. Richard Petty said that this was his favorite race car. The Hemi in these Mopars were 426 CID displacement and were painted "Hemi Orange" The big A-Cs of the day were also running 426 CID engines. In that era there were no Edelbrock carbs, but lots of performance engines had aluminum Edelbrock intake manifolds topped by a big ole' Holley!! Kip

I was talking to a farmer the other day who said he was the first puller with a D21 called "Orange Blossom Special". He said he won NTPA titles a time or two with it. Also told me that AC was sponsering or otherwise "helping" the better pullers. He'd get better injectors, gearsets etc from them. I think he mentioned a couple of 180's and his D21 being helped by them.

That was big time tractor pulling AC, IH and Deere put a lot of money into "non factory" support. At least nobody admitted the factory was supporting anyone. LOL!

A few years ago, I became aquainted with a fellow by the name of Carroll Smith from Iowa. His Father was involved in making a dirt track car with an AC motor. I was seeing him every winter when I went to the Galesburg, Il. Mall Show in Feb., but have not gone the last two years. Some where I have a picture of the car back in the day. He thought it was important that I had that picture. Chuck Dornbush and John C. might be able to shed some light on this. I am sure they have talked to them. Possibly Charlie Tucker , and Mike Anderson may know something about this. Anyway he was trying to resurrect the old car and had found a great deal of parts from the unit, from back in the 50's. Dave.

I also remember he had the blueprints of the car to show me. I would be interested in knowing how he is coming out locating all of the old parts.

Looks good. You might want to add a smaller D front left of the 21 just in case there is another 21 there that day....LOL . I grew up at dirt tracks ,I always thought if I ever ran a race car,the number would be D 21
