Tracy, this cub was produced before they assigned any model numbers. International Harvester started cranking out these lawn tractors in 1961. And they simply called them cub cadets. It wasn't until the introduction of the model 70 in 1963 was there ever a model number issued to define the tractor. Common talk then refered to the older models without a model number as a cub cadet"Original." These Original tractors can be a pain if you have an early model. Mine is a 62 and it's in that early group. A lot of the parts are different and no longer produced, making them hard to find. For example my front wheel bearings are shot and you wouldn't think that's a big deal. However, this tractor doesn't have bearings but bushings. And there isn't a bearing replacement nor do they still make the bushings. Only choice is to butcher up the spindles to make the 7/8 shaft a smaller 3/4 to accommodate a bearing. Same goes for the front axle pivot pin. Nope, can't buy one so one has to be machined. I don't have a lathe, so I have to pay to have one custom made. What I need is a couple of mower deck pulleys. These are splined pulleys that uses a cog belt. The blades have to be timed so they don't hit each other. They hadn't learned to stagger the blades yet. They can be found on any early 2 blade 38 inch deck.

Les, about three years ago, I emptied out a storage shed that I was tearing down to make room for new construction... it was my accumulation of many years of being around Cub Cadets. I loaded up a heavy trailer load of IHCC parts, including a half-dozen decks, and took them to Marlin Homrighausen, in Colo, who distributed them out to people who needed parts. I don't recall if there was a complete CCO deck in there, but good chance there were parts in the boxes... and an excellent chance that if you need a CCO part, if he doesn't have one, he knows which one of the Cub guys DOES. As for the front wheel bushings, press the old one out, take it to a bearing shop, and have 'em look up the proper ID, get 'em an inch longer than you need, then send 'em to me with one of your wheels, I'll cut the OD for you. ;-)
