Well The D17 Tranny went bang today out feeding cows it made a loud nose sounds like it is by my right foot by the brake pedals. I dose not do it all the time but when it dose it stops the tractor and I sounds like parts are leaving. All I did to it is laoded it on the goseneck and put it in the shed. I have to take the loader off and look at it more. I was thinking like a bearing went out and the balls are playing with the teeth of the gears it did it to me in 3rd and R. I never tore into a transmission before. What do you think it is? Is it hard to work on the tranny? Open to enything, I know I could be alot of things. This was the last straw thow on farming the cows are going the land is going to be rented I am thinking of restoring the 17 and take it to shows and thinking of trading of the 1105 MF and getting a 6080. Any help would be GREAT thanks. Eric

It is a series one I put brakes on it this fall new pads and drums wheel seals also. That was the first thing that can to my mine also. I did back off the right hand brake I was not sticking but backed it off anyway and it still did it. Allen Ya that will be the first thing I do maybe I will even get a tooth or two. Eric

It sounds like a ball came out of socket in the brakes. That is if it is a series 3 or 4. Dave.

I might be thinking intermediate gears under the dashboard. Were you using the PTO when the "big bang" occured??

DrAllis Yes the pto was on. We turn it on when it is cold to circulate the oil and keep it warm. It was only -10 below when it went bang.
