Trying to fix an oil leak at the oil filter base on my WD45. On page 33 of the AC parts catalog, figure 2 (from picture on previous page) shows 2 different gasket part numbers -- 233228 (base to cylinder block) and a quantity of 2 of 233704 ( used w/233522). The 233522 is the oil filter base itself. Been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what teh second part number is for. Why would there need to be 3 gaskets between the filter base and the engine? What am I missing here?

John, I sure wish that I knew the answer to this one too. I sent an email to the local Ag dealer and they came back with that both gaskets are available. I had asked WHICH one I needed and I never got an answer. Hope we both have better luck here.

I have a few moddel Bs, and i think the 45 is similar. The problem is the filter head is aluminum and it will flex and bow when bolted to the block with the soft cork gasket. Lay a straight edge across your gasket face and look. See if it has a gap in the center and hits hard where the two bolts go thru. First thing to do is file that face flat or put it on a belt sander and sand it flat. NExt fill the hollow casting with epoxy or JB weld, etc. Smooth it all out again. When i install i use a normal paper type gasket with a thin film of RTV on both sides. YOu can use the cork gasket after the above rework also.... dont forget to drag a file across the block gasket face and see that it looks decent also. Sometimes just a power wire brush is good for the block.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Burgie gets the prize!
I looked at my D-17 parts list and it shows the 2 copper gaskets that go under the head of the attaching "capscrews" as having part number 233704-6.
Somebody at A-C made a goof.
Oh well........nobody's perfect. LOL

John,
Just fixed that on my 1954 WD45 last summer , used the New Number 70233228 ( Add a 70 to the front to update your old book) they cost $2.23 each and were sold in packs of 5. I have a few friends take the others off my hands. But you are on the right track with your number for the gasket.

I haven't had the one off my 45 but the CA block is not machined where the filter base bolts on. That only adds to the possibilities of leaking along with the die cast flexible base. WC's and Wd's at least had a flat piece of steel to bolt to.
