AC 501 Gear w/ Box & Hoist

I picked up this nice, original AC wagon in Illinois last weekend, and plan to make a project out of it... I restored a wagon gear two years ago and think I know where all the decals and stencils go on the running gear.  On the steel box, there are decal remnants on the front and side panels, are there any more I don't know about?  The literature I have suggests not, but it doesn't show every angle.  One picture I have suggests there is a decal on the scissors part of the hoist.  What looks to be the original ram is still present, but will need a fresh hose before I can check out the hoist and what I have. 

All the literature I have seen shows black, block type decals on the box.  The decal remnants on this box show white-outlined "WD style" lettering.  Any tips or insight would be appreciated.

Bill - would love to find something like that to go behind the 190 picker for corn.  Great find!  Joe Kurzy has a barge wagon like that.  Might PM him if you need help on the restro.  Good luck! Mike

Those wagons are the Holy Grail of A/C collectors,well not really but I have only seen them in pics and old advertisements.I also would love to have one and I am sure I will pay dearly for one if I ever find one.That one looks great.Excellent find.Very functional,could be used for several jobs.I would imagine a lot of them rotted into the ground in timbers and fencerows.
An older farmer I worked for when I was younger had a "utility" wagon that was a flat bed(wooden)that had removable side boards.There were two sets,one set was 2 feet tall and the other set was 4 feet tall.You could even stack the 2 foot set on top of 4 foot set to make 6 foot tall.Was pretty neat,think it was an older David Bradley.Never have seen one since.Have seen some green ones with basically the same set up go for 2-3 thousand $

Bill, Where are you located in East Central Missouri? I am in O'Fallon. There is usually a plow day every October near Marthasville that I have been to several times. Open to all colors but usually only a couple of A-C's there. One of the guys who lives close by has a couple extra Snap Coupler plows you could probably use if you brought one of your D-17's.

I am figuring shelled bushels of corn or soybean capacity on Bill's wagon.  See if I am figuring correctly.  Bed dimensions of 2'sidesx8'widthx11'long = 176cubic feet/1.1cubic feet per bushel = 160 bushels.  Cargo weight of 160 bushels of 20?% corn or dry soybeans would be 60lbs per bushel.  So, 160bushelsx60lbs per bushel = 9600lbs of grain. 

Dad had two just like it but they burned up in a shed fire along with the oats they were holding. That was in 76.

Hello Bill!!     John E.C.  IL  When't and looked at the wagon for me before the auction and said that it was in good shape,  but like others have said they AIN'T cheap, there also was an AC running with hoist that we bought.  This summer I restored 3 AC running gears, and made enought lumber out of used telephone poles for 3  8'x18' racks.
