How much counterweight should I have on a G? Probably cost me as much as the tractor did, if I can even find them, but I think it would save a lot of stress on the truck frames

My HD5G has 2 weights , which seems to balance well with full bucket. Without weights I have seen many machines with twisted truck frames from to much weight on front ideler, or bent axels in wheel.
Only time i have a problem is backing up ramp with full bucket , machine wants to walk on track raising machine rear, instead of moving backwards
Have seen weights with the AC logo cast into them and also like mine just flat with a lift rod in csnter cast into weight.
The 2-71 pump should prime the system but you could fill the filter cup with fuel. If you use the either sparingly to get it to run it will save on batteries. I use the 1/4" pipe plug hole in blower to add either. Edited by Coke-in-MN - 05 Dec 2009 at 12:08pm |

Yep, That's what happened to one of the two machines I have, the frame is (was, I fixed it) all twisted at the front idler, and I suspected thats what happened, someone did a lot of heavy lifting w/o counter weight. How heavy is a weight? I will probably build a frame work out of scrape and fill it with concrete, cheaper than buying real weights
Thanks for the help guys.

Unsure what the weight is in lbs. as far as scrap value most counter weights were low grade and most scrap places do not want them.
Friend junked several cranes and ended up paying a landfill to take the weights.
As someone has one , might be time for road trip .. LOL

On my Hd 5 I weighed the counter weight one time, if I remember correctly, it was somewhere between 750 to 1000 pounds.

i'm trying to remember on my hg5, i think there was one weight above the drawbar on back, showed 1000# inscribed in the metal, it always seemed to stay level when the bucket was full of dirt. i don't have it anymore, otherwise i'd go look.
