hey i just bought a 1945 allis c for $350. well i got it running great but had a loud bearing growl in the rear end when in gear. any gear. doesn't do it running in neutral. i checked and changed all fluids. all seemed to be fine and water free.. any ideas. i don't know if its trans rear or final drives. but looking to fix it asap

Jack it up set it on blocks or jack stans put in gear use a mechanics stethescope or a long screwdriver [put your ear on the handle ] listen at the bearing points for the loudes noise [  use the brakes to shift power to the other wheel ] mybe you can pinpoint the noise if it only growls with a load on the wheels check the bull gear bearings

well i jacked up the rear of it. with it in neutral i rolled one tire at a time. seems like its coming from trans area. not in final drives. trans did not have water in it and has good fluid in it.. any ideas?

Leave it jacked up  with the motor runing put the P T O in gear that will let you listen to the  maine  shaft bea rings   then put it in gear and listen to the diff. carier bearings use the brakes to load them its a proces of Elimation its in your hands from there -use it till it pukes -pull it apart-look for a trans&diff.[ b & C are same ] unit at a bone yard or swap meet

I have a C that has had a transmission growl for 20 years.
Keep fluids up and run it.

You can drain the transmission and rear and add a quart of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer when you refill it and see if the extra coating from the Lucas quiets things down.

I just refill with 20w non-detergent motor oil and add the Lucas.

Back many years ago my Dad's C had a noise in the front of the transmission that you could hear when from a distance. It did it in all gears but not when idling in netural. I split the tractor and found a lot of end play in the input shaft of the transmission. I took some shims out from behind the input shaft bearing cap and put the bearing cap back on.  The noise was gone and to this day it has never come back.
