Looking to ID a small A-C crawler noted for sale recently and need to know where the s/n would be listed before I return to view same (with a camera).
This info is also listed on the construction page and the unit in question is small, narrow gauge/tracks and is best described as being the size of an M model.
Kicker is that it appears to be equipped with a small Detroit, but none of the illustrations found in my A-C books denote Detroit use in a crwaler this small .......
S/N location would allow me to find same and post back with pics.

I think the smaller HD series had 2 cylinder diesels in them. They are probably about the same size as an M by dimensions but weigh twice as much.

It seems you have found an HD-5 crawler. They had a 2 cylinder Detroit. Serial number should be stamped on the right side of the steering clutch housing at the upper right corner. They were built between 1946 and 1955. Numbers were from 1 to 29255. There were different variations with 44 in. tracks or 60 in. tracks.

Tim,
If you can take some photos and list that serial number. I am trying to document AC crawlers my grandfather may have worked on. I have his service log from back in the 50s. He listed all the tractors and equipment he worked on by serial number. Would be really neat to make a connection.

Ed, your right, that is what I was thinking, the very limited production HD-3. Didnt have enough of coffee this morning. Wasnt the HD-3 basically an M with a detroit?

Tim, does the for sale crawler look like this one ?
The crawler pictured belongs to forum member Terry G from Idaho. It's a 1942 HD3, one of 28 made that year only. Basically it was a Detroit 2/71 motor in an Allis model M powertrain.

Yes, looks somewhat like that one, but tin work appears to be an older looking model on the unit I have seen; will have to get out there this week and take a pic ........

Went by this crawler on the way to T-Day dinner at Hilltop Lakes; s/n HD5A-528.
What is the difference between the A and B series HD's?
Pretty clean old HD5 and he is asking 2800.00 for it.

The HD-5A is 44 inch gauge and the HD-5B is 60 inch, that appears to be the only difference in the book.
