I have a D14 with a AC (Freeman) 150 loader (if I remember right). Here's a pic of me pushing snow with it last year ![]() I think the D14 is going to need a motor rebuild real soon now and since I'm going to be feeding round bales this winter I must have a loader. I have an AC175 that I'm thinking of trying to fit the loader on to. It has power steering and bigger hydraulics so I think would be a better choice, despite being a bit less handy. The frame rails on the 175 are two inches wider than the D14 but I think I can just widen the brace that joins the two loader frames together and weld another mount for the loader arms to compensate for the extra width. I'd sure like to hear from anyone who's fitted this model of loader to a 175 sized tractor, or has thoughts on the feasibility of the switch. cheers, Andrew

To me, that loader looks too small for a 175. Hydraulic systems are different too - D14 is high pressure/low volume, the 175 is opposite.

With those cylinders, the 175 will probably only lift about half as much, but will lift twice as fast. IMO you would be way better off to have a full hydraulic loader fit for the 175 and then you would have hyd. dump too instead of trip.

If you ever use your 175 with the right loader on it you will never consider your D14 the more handy of the two again. Just my opinion.

Good to hear that the 175 works well as a loader tractor. I added hydraulic dump to the loader a while ago. Buying a larger set of lift cylinders would be cheaper than finding another loader and would give me down pressure. The loader is slow on the D14 and the lack of live hydraulics is a pain. I also welded up a new bucket back when I added the dump hydraulics. Need to find a pic of it not hiding under snow I guess.
The D14 would likely be more useful without the weight of the loader as it doesn't have power steering. That being said, if anyone has leads on a suitable loader for the 175 within reasonable distance of Eastern Ontario I'd be interested in hearing about it. cheers, Andrew

I had a Freeman 4000 loader on a D17. That was a well balanced unit. The loader size looks about the same but the loader I had was hydraulic bucket and 2 way cylinders on the loader arms.

Here's a pic of the loader showing the bucket I made and the hydraulic
bucket cylinder. I built the backhoe on the back as well.
![]() I'll look for pics of a Freeman 4000 too. Maybe it's something like this one that I downloaded sometime ago (and had forgotten about)? ![]() thanks again for the insight. cheers, Andrew |

Andrew, there are quite a few old loaders out there with self-contained live hydraulics (the pump mounted in front and driven by a removeable extension on the crankshaft, and the tank and controls are part of the right main support). The hydraulics being independent of the tractor, any color will work.
