Anybody here have a good way to get the 2 middle manifold nuts started? I can get 1 of my fat fingers up in there and they always just fall on the floor. Made some new words up yesterday trying to get them on. Probably not the smartest thing to do, but I lifted one side with the gantry so the nuts wouldn't immediately fall down.

No. You can barley get the closed end of a combination wrench in there and maybe turn it a few degrees.

I've done several over the past few years. I start the outer ones but leave them as loose as possible to allow more room in the middle. Pretty sure I even removed the distributor and carburetor as well.

My 14 year old Grandson often gets drafted for this type of project, before he was born his Mama got the call. Grandson #2 should be available for another ten years or so :-)

If the threads are clean and easy to start without the manifold in the way then put the manifold back on and put the nut on a long smooth drift punch roughly the inside size of nut, line it up with the stud and spin it on with a long thin screwdriver as far as it will go being sure you don't cross thread it then finish tightening with a wrench or socket. When I can't get a bolt or nut to stay in a socket I put a small piece of paper over the edge of the socket business end then push bolt or nut into socket and get it done then wiggle socket or pull off with needle nose pliers. I have put a drop of super glue on my finger then glue the nut on. it does take off any skin to pull it loose.
My hands are big, there are some places they just don't fit

If you have the space, and can find a bit of hose just big enough to slip the nut in, it can start it, too. Either way, its no skin offa MY, er, a finger...

I sometimes a magnet to hold small parts in place while manipulating nuts/bolts. Without being there it is difficult to know just what works best though. Good luck!
