I am kind of getting excited to finally put my corn picker on this WD tractor after 5 years.
Anyone have good photos of a mounted picker in action? or any pickers in action?

Give me a month or so and I will have some pics and videos of mine. Its green but its still alot of fun to use. Its the same as this one:

I planted a small amount of corn this year and we had the picker from days past. Bought a combine this year too but for what people want for a corn head I'm going to just dump the wagons on the belt pickup head and use that to draw it into the machine. Buying a 4500 dollar cornhead for a 3000 dollar combine for less than 5 acres is just silly.

This was back in March. I just picked down one row and put it in a bucket. After I fixed the elevator I pulled the gravity wagon behind and finished it up in less time than it took to fill 10 buckets. It makes nice heat when you're short of wood.

Early Wood Bothers. It's a prewar picker cause it has gray paint. Dearborn bought out Wood brothers after WWII and painted them red. My Allis 35 was in a harder to get at place and doesn't like corn over 100 BU/acre.

Don, I get a sick feeling ever time I see one of those. A guy I worked with told me of some property by his folks farm that was being sold. There was all kinds of junk and equipment all around the place and there was a real nice New Idea 1 row picker there. They had made a deal with a scrapper to clean it up but I couldn't get in contact with the scrapper before everything was cut up. I just hate when that happens.
By the way, I wish my 45 had as much paint on it as yours. Edited by CTuckerNWIL - 28 Sep 2010 at 7:46pm |

I got this old unit from a farmer up the road 6 miles he made me a good deal on it, she will do a good job putting corn in the wagon.

Here is my rig picking last year. Won't be any corn this year - the Floods destroyed it and subsequent rains kept things too wet for too long to replant.
Maybe next year.

There isn't much a WC can't do.

A WD just looks at home picking corn. Just think how many acres those old girls have run over picking corn like that.

Went to my parents house Saturday. Got there just as Dad was pulling picker off UNI. He got a "New" New Idea picker. It gave the WD-45 a good workout in second gear.

Great pics/video. There's something really satisfying about watching corn being picked or chopped.

Really enjoy seeing the old pickers. Have few acres that I would like to put in corn and pick --- but don't know how you guys keep the deer and raccoons from eating everything. Afraid they wouldn't leave anything to pick.
