 Topic: D14 options...Question?

I recently aquired a 1959 model D14, and it is optioned with the "Orchard" exhaust manifold. My question is...were these only offered with the orchard versions, or could you special order one for certain uses. It's been repainted and I don't see any signs of where the orchard sheet metal might have been mounted. It's actually quieter than the vertical style exhaust. Any info would be appreciated. Mite hae been a "low clearance" issue when it was bought new? Low barn door or etc.

I know that the low clearance muffler and hood cover were avalible in the D14 parts catalog

I appreciate the nice pictures of the setup. I'd like to put one on due to my 'low door' issue but it might hit the Delco CS-130 alternator I just put on.Could be a nice Winter project though.

over to the front wheel weight post, 93 # $18.30 each
Is utility shielding equipment option meaning Orchard ?
painting, any color other than standard $16.90

Thanks for the replies. When the previous owner tried to explain to me about the exhaust over the phone, I really expected to find some kind of homemade conglomeration, if you know what I mean! At first sight it looks odd not seeing the vertical muffler, but it's a nice view from the seat, and no more worrying about garage clearance. This also has a full length heat sheild inside the hood panel that attaches to the bolts for the exhaust hole cover, and another bracket off the manifold heat sheild, that elbows over to the valve cover. here's some extra pics. Eddie, Could you post another picture of you rear wheel weights. Are they the 161 and 162 f & H weights?

That is a neat option. I had see one on D10/D12 that made a sharp U turn down.
I need to learn more about D14s, I should be the proud owner of one tomorrow.

If you could get rid of the air breather pipe, then you would only have the steering wheel and your head to snag on low hanging branches or garage doors. LOL Pretty straight looking tractor there Eddie, nice find.

The rear weights are 161's. I've used these on 17's before, but never on the smaller tractors. i think they look pretty good on it. This is a solid little machine. The tranny is fine and the finals aren't noisy. The previous owner just had a new clutch installed, and the rear lift cylinder was rebuilt and the hyd. hose replaced. I modified it just a touch, by putting a dash panel from a D15 on it.
