If I put a set of firestone 23,  14.9-28 on some 15 inch wide wheels will I have any chance of competing against the 15.5-38s? Most the allis tractors in my club run 15.5, they stay in the 3500-4000 class because the run out of power. 2 allis tractors run 14.9, a wc with stock wheels and a 45 with stock wheels. The wc tires are off brand  and spin out fairly easy. The 45 has worn out 14.9 and does fairly well, some times he will beat the 15.5s he has the power advantage-- but most he time he is in 3rd or 4rth place. Our track is a tough one, eats hp. sticky clay. I would like to stay with 28s they are easier to find, cheaper and I would like to compete with it the way allis set it up. I might even buy new firestones, I know new tires usually arent what you want but if I cant find good used ones I will have to go new. What do you guys think? Sorry for the long post but I need to decide which way to go. Thanks,JM

I pull with a 45 gas and a 45 diesel both have 13.6s. You would be amazed at what I can beat. but you have to pick the right sled, and get your drawbar as high and as short as you can. I use a D17 drawbar and cut it off just so the clevis clears the yoke. Some pulls let you have your drawbar at 20", Beat an Oliver Super 88, twice, this summer  in the 6,000 lb class, my tractor is stock with Allis weights on the axels and at Albert City I beat a modified IH 400 by 10' in the 6,000 lb class. I weighed 5780 lbs. He blew me away in the 6500 class.
