Combine rookie! Need advice

   Sorry this isnt about anything Allis. 

My dad and I bought a 4400 Deere really cheap, but it only came with a rigid grain head and a belt pickup.  It is a 13' head and I am wondering if I can use it to combine beans with or will I destroy it being that close to the ground?  Anything I can do to make it work for me?  Next year will be wheat so the grain head will be perfect then.  Dads ground is pretty flat for the most part.

	By belt pickup do you mean a draper feed into the feederhouse instead of an auger? I run a 10 foot rigid head in beans on my Gleaner EIII. Has an Roper Wright header height control on it but I can do just as well manually with it. No poly skids on my head and no issue with tearing it up. Can't get quite as close to the ground with it as newer flex heads with the poly skids that sit right on the ground but I don't lose anything worth worrying about it. Go a little slower and pay close attention and you should do fine. Also, Is it a flat reel or hume pickup reel? You really want a hume reel in beans. Not so much an issue in wheat unless it's down. 	No its a 213 rigid with an auger. The belt pickup is a dummy head with finger belts and an auger to pick up windrows. Just want to make sure I am not going to destroy anything thats all. Ive never run a combine in my life so slow will be the word!

	Roddo, That's near the situation I had last year. Had'n run a combine in over 40 years and went up to Indiana to combine the beans for my sister. Had a blast and only one breakdown on the old 60 All Crop. Not bad in my opinion. Just go slow and get a feel for it. Listen for any different noises as your running. It's usually a sign that something is going south. God Bless.
