 Topic: Selling prices of WD's and WD45's

I was just looking at the "Tractor House" site, and while the prices there seem to be always a bit higher on WD's and WD45's then what one might sell for around Indiana, I have noticed the prices seem to be inching up on there site.
I realize prices are geographically motivated, (what a $1500.00 tractor would sell for in Indiana, is a $2500.00 tractor somewhere else),,but was wondering if they ARE indeed selling for $3000.00 and up?
Just curious,,that's all,,,,,,

Local dealer had a WD that he was asking $2250 for, it was a run of the mill WD, nothing special that I had seen similar copies sell for $1200. I told him that was double what the collector market was and he said that he would get full price. It sat for about three months and then disappeared. My guess is that the dealers are getting close to there asking price. Go figure.

I see people advertising B's and C's for 2-3K all the time. I don't think many are selling in that range. It only takes one buyer to pay the asking price though, so maybe some are just hoping for a higher price.

Dealers ask more than they plan to get so they have some working room to allow for trade ins, etc. very few get 100% of their "asking" price. However buying a used tractor is like buying a used car, if you go to a dealer your usually going to pay more than a private party sale. The dealer has overhead the private party doesn't, and there are certain expectations and requirements the dealer must meet and he is trying to stay in business and feed his family not just get rid of an old tractor.
I gave $1900 for an average 1950 WD last fall with an older repaint and not so hot rear tires. I flat out gave too much. If I'd had more patience I could have bought 20 or more WDs from $900 to $1200 in as good or better conditions. The tractor is a narrow front, no power steering or 3pt conversion.
After shopping around, a $2500 or higher priced WD or WD45 should have like new tires at the very least, and good paint & sheet metal, and be in good overall mechanical condition. There are lots and lots of W series out there, the supply is plentiful. Anytime you see the word rare in an ad for a WC, WD or WD45 the seller is either ignorant of what they have, misinformed or a shyster.
Of course supply and demand plays a part too, I live in north central IL and in general you can find an old tractor of any color pretty easily, your mileage may vary. LOL!

Yes, they seem higher than normal lately.
I would be happier than heck just to find a decent WD here in michigan with good paint, that does not cost an arm and a leg. Would like to pick corn with a mounted 2 row picker I have, but currently dont have a tractor.

I was thinking the same thing about prices going up. Down the road from me there is a wide front WD45, they are asking 1600.00. It don't look like it was ever stored inside. No paint, just rust. I was at a tractor show and saw a WD with a freeman loader. Old paint. They wanted 2800.00. Mine is almost identical, same loader, same condition, and I paid 1000.00 for mine.

I think it's location ...WD's & 45's haven't been used for work around here since the 60's...I paid $800 for my complete good running WD-45 in 07....a 45 was sold up the road from me for $300 last week ran good but had wheel bearing trouble...neighbor has a WD that has been for sale since Jan. for $600..I made him an offer of $400 said he had to think on it...diesel WD-45 running good sold for $1200 back in the summer about 40mi. from me but I couldn't get off work in time to get it...[2] running D-17LP's sold for $1000 last week ...again I had to work ...location is the key ...not worth very much down here...only used for pullers

Here is an auction I attended , it was Gene Shoup Absolute Collector Tractor Auction in Bonfield, IL on Sat, Aug 14, 2010 8:30 AM, there had to be 500 to 1000 people at this one. To answer the question he had wd45's look at the results and follow this as a recent auction.

OK,,,so It's not just me then,,
I know a couple of years ago, Tractor House had WD's and WD45's at anywhere from $800.00 for your avarage "OK" tractor to $2000.00 for the nicer ones, now it's considerably higher for ANY of them, but like I said, it depended on where you are location wise.

it's got to location...those WD's & any tractor with a stuck engine would be sold as scrap down here....now I know why when [very rare] the dealers do get older tractors in they always load them up & send them North....the only thing that sells down here that old would be a 4020 Deere & they make good bush hog tractors...to small for anything else....would love to have a 77 Oliver...I'm 62 & farmed all my life & never saw an Oliver till I went to a pull...take care ...Kent

I've got a WD-45 that I have priced to a man at $4500 and I've been told by him to let him know when I am ready to part with it. And I saw a WD-45 today that a guy paid $6000 for. It had a complete engine overhaul and lots of other work and the paint was perfect. Oh, and it had a 4-bold wide front and new tires all around.

kendac..i wish i could find a half dozen 45Dfor that price.just like the g allis,4 years ago you could get them for 7-8-9 hundred dollars...ck them now.there was an article in thr wall street journal some times back of the people who were buying antique tractors as an investment.just remember...you can always go down on the price easier than going up...

Bought a very clean WF WD45 two weeks ago for $800. was sitting on the side of a road with a make offer sign. My other WD45 I bought at a Dealer paid $1500 and it needed lots of little things welded and rebushed.
