Today I was going to take the 37 WC down to the garage to work on it. It sits in the barn just above the house when it's not being used. Well when I started it I looked for the blue flame that I described in another post and didn't see it. It ran really good until I rounded the corner of the barn. Then it was a completely different animal. When you gave it more gas it would sputter and try to die. Then it got so bad that I put it out of gear and it would barely run and then it just died. Thinking for a moment I knew I would have to start it to but it back in the barn. So I went to the front and went through the regular starting routine and it started right up and ran like a dream. I put it in the barn and left her where she sits now. The only thing I know to be wrong with the machine is that the water pump leaks a little but I made sure the fluid was up in the radiator.
 
I don't know too much about this sort of thing but maybe one of you guys could help.

It sounds like a fuel problem. The carb was full of fuel when you started it, and new fuel isn't getting to the carb fast enough. But if you let it sit, the carb fills back up again.
Disconnect the fuel line from the carb and see if you have good flow. If that's good, there is probably junk in the carberator.

I'll have to try that. That's like my baby. I usually take it up and down the drive in the evenings. I was really hoping it would not be something major.
 
I guess the old sediment bowl can't catch everything.

Jeremy, is this a repetitive problem that you've had for some time, or did it just start? Does it seem to do it at fairly regular intervals, or is it very erratic? You may have a piece of trash floating over the fuel outlet in the tank. Removing the pettcock and sediment bowl assembly from the tank, then rolling a piece of fine brass screen(can get at most any hardware store) and sticking in the inlet hole of the sediment bowl will usually keep that from happenning again.
 
You also may have some trash in the fuel line or carb that plugs it up periodically. Do you have the steel line, or has it been replaced with rubber? Sometimes rubber lines will deteriorate and collapse. You could check there. I had a problem with my C cutting off erratically. Finally found it to be a warped carb inlet needle seat. The needle would vibrate around to a certain spot and stick closed, letting the carb bowl run out of fuel. It would then free itself from the rocking motion of the tractor stalling, or me jumping up and down cussing.LOL! It would start right back up, but might die again. Might run another 30 minutes. Very frustrating. I found this after going through all of the other scenarios that I mentioned. Start with the simple and obvious, and work your way from there. Good luck. It just started yesterday as I was driving it up the road to the barn. It seems to do it just at random times. The fuel line is still the origional metal one. Yeah, I usually park it and turn the fuel off so it empties the carb and when I start it afterwords it works fine for either a couple of minutes or seconds.
 
No need to apologise for a long post. I need to stop having all of these problems. LOL

As long as you're going to work on old tractors, trucks, cars, etc, you're gonna have problems. Old saying goes, "if it has tires, tracks, or(parts of female anatomy), you will have trouble with it.
Sounds liek you have a problem with it running out of fuel. I would look very closely at the inside of the gas tank. There could be a piece of trash floating around in there. Could be as small as a ladybug. I have seen the paper washers from gas cans get in there.  Try taking the sediment bowl out and putting the rolled brass screen in the inlet. Do this even if you don't see anything in the tank. Will eliminate that as a problem. Also make sure the gas cap is venting. If not, it lets the tank draw vacuum and the gas won't flow. Easy way to check is leave gas cap off. If that fixes it, get a new gas cap.
