Anybody know what type of oil to use in a WD's transmission and differential?  Leaving for hunting land on Friday and wanted to put in fresh oil - just bought the tractor and waiting on manual I ordered.  I appreciate any help.

I believe it hold 17 quarts, I use 80/90 gear lube. there are 3 separate comparments. Drain plugs are located on bottom of transmission, bottom of differential, and bottom of hand clutch housing. Fill all 3 compartments through transmission filler plugs (2)

Thanks Matt,  are you saying you drain 3 plugs but you only fill using 2?

Yes, there are 3 lower "sumps" for the compartments that need to be drained. the cases are "open" on the inside so they will fill through the transmission filler holes

The 2 rear most plugs on left check same levels but for filling you need both or take forever.

So then ... do I use 80/90 gear lube for the hydraulics and transmission and differential?  Seems odd to use for hydraulics - with the possible contamination.

After re-reading the responses I think I get it now ... Gear lube for the clutch, transmission and differential, but the hydraulics is a separate compartment with its own drain plug and fill at dip stick ... is that it?  Just trying to make sure I don't screw it up ... hurry up USPS with my manual!

The transmission, differential and hand clutch fill plugs have square heads; different sizes.
The filler with the "bayonet" dipstick is for the hydraulics. Holds 6 qts. Originally called for 20 Wt non-detergent oil but most use universal hydraulic fluid nowadays. In addition to the "magnetized drain plug on the bottom of the housing, there is a small drain plug
on the hydraulic control housing near the pump on the RH side which should also be drained.

I use JD hi-guard universal trans/hydraulic fluid. Works really well.
