What seems to be the problem? Is it the track conditions or tractor issues? I have had those embarrassing moments myself, my problems were ineperience and mechanical, all in good fun.

burgie it just blew my mind . first time out with this engine . dad got sick from the heat so i loaded on the trailor and went home. wished I had tried some heavier classes to see if it was a down on power or over torquing the tires . when i first let out on the four button clutch and the engine didnt loose rpms . I thought the clutch was gone.

Wrong tires (tread cut) for the track or too much air pressure.

I had a couple od those type moments when I started pulling. Mine was drawbar hight and the front came up to where everyone got excited and DQ'd me. That was why I built my own pulling track to check to my changes and balance.

Happened to me, just sat there and spun, lucky I was the first puller and they shortened the chain 2 links and I was able to move it for a full pull. Chain length matters!

Well Ind. was there I didnt get a chance to talk with him after the embarrashing show . maybe he saw something that could help. I know I missed the weighting altogether but I stll dont know if all the weights on the back would have been enough. tractor is a altogether different animal than it was 2 seasons ago but maybe my memory is failling.

Well Pankey, you make me feel a little better for this week's pull. I did ok last week in the 4500 lb. class, but not great. I am weighted up this week to go in the 6000 lb. class, so it's either gonna be really good or really bad. I had one pull like that four years ago, my first one. Spun from the very start and finally did get going but ended up second to dead last in my class, last being someone that broke something. I almost ended my pulling career after that first pull. I guess that's the fun thing and upsetting thing about pulling is that just when you got it figured out, it throws you for a loop.

I don't feel so bad about my experience now after reading this. I tried to pull in a farm stock class once. I was 50 lbs over to pull in the 5,000 so I had to pull in 6000. There was only a JD A in the 5000 and there was a hopped up 560 farmall with an 8 inch drawbar in 6000. The rules said standard 14" drawbar from PTO but they let him pull. I throttled back about half way down the track cause I was spinnin a lot. I don't remember the other 2 tractors in the 6000 but I got 4th out of 4.

Finishing second when everyone else tied for first is real embarrasing.

There is no need to be embarrassed. You simply had no wheel hook up at all. Your tires spun on top of the hard clay. With all of the power you had there was no way you were going to move that sled. I saw your dad was sick and didn't want to bother you. Keep up the good work with ACs and we hope to see you at the White Pine, TN pull in November. |

I have looked over some notes and talked with some friends. I had only pulled the diesel rear twice before blowing the 310 ci motor up. This new motors increase in cubic inches and 1 point increase in static comp. ratio is definately making more torque. that along with the mechanical torque of the slower gear . Suprised me or was something I hadnt thought about much untill this week. Engine saturday had a verry light tune in it but will spin the wheels about four feet in high gear across the field with nothing hooked to it when called on with throttle. Its time to weight it up or go back to the higher ring gear or back the cam up a degree or four.
