We recently purchased a 1957 WD45 DIESEL, and it has a slight knock. We can't seem to trace where exactly it comming from. We thought it was comming from the valve train, we set the valves and still knock. Also it will not hold a low idle, if you jerk the throttle it will idle down briefly then within 30 seconds it will rev back up slightly. Is there adjustments to make, any help would be appreciated. Iam also looking for the two filters and brackets that mount ontop of the engine. thanks in advance. Allen |

welcome to the page. The knock you can put set of ear muffs on and put a long screw driver against the block in diffrent spots see if you can figure it out. Or for more fun drop the base and see if anything is going on with the bearings. For the rpm thing check and see if any of your linkage is wore or has play. If not you might be getting into the pump. Also have you changed your motor oil ? if so what did you put in. That may be the knock ? That was the problem I just ran across on a wd I just picked up. 20+ year old oil. keep us posted and love photos of 45D's

I'd have serious concerns about the condition of the inj. pump. If things are going wrong init then the knock could be one or more cylinders firing too soon.

That was the first thing i did when i got it home was change the oil and filters. I never thought of the pump causing the knock. Do you think someone along the line advanced it more?
