I got the Gleaner K going that I bought, that has been sitting for years.  The power steering is not working very well, and acts like it is out of fluid, which it is not.  I changed the filter and fluid before I ever turned the engine over.  Is there a valve sticking somewhere?  The steering wheel comes tight, and then loose and so on.   After a few minutes of run time, the hydraulic pump and system in general seems awfully hot as well.  Any thoughts??  Thanks!!

Make absolutely sure all your hyd lever spools are in the "center" (neutral or hold) position.....sounds like you have one stuck causing the pump to get the oil hot and bypass some oil from the steering circuit.

Whats the steering feel like with the engine off?  Smooth..or is it binding then as well?  If it is..it could be in the steering orbital.  If its smooth while engine off..it could be air trapped in the lines between the orbital and steering cylinder.  How does the pump sound while running?  does it do any whining?   -Wes

Thanks, guys.  I think that you are right, Dr. Allis.  The reel lift lever won't move, so that valve must be stuck.  That had crossed my mind.   I will try to free it up tomorrow.  Thanks again.

Kev, I found dirt pounded in the back cap nut on my combine's control valves and it caused troubles until I took nut off, (looks like and acorn nut with a hole in it that suppose to have rubber plugs.)  and cleaned the dirt out.
