How where the numbers on the D10-D12 tractors accomplished? Were they random from beginning to end?How were the engines numbered? Were they all D10 or D12 stamped ,or just D10 or just D12 stamped according to each tractor they went on?What serial number did live power start at? Thanks Tracy Martin

Tracy. from many years of working with D10's. I have the same questions. I do know the D10 started at no. 1001 and ended at 10100, but Deans book says that 5304 were produced so ther had to be gaps in serial no's. I do know that the hyd pump was moved to the back of the tractor at serial no. 3501 so this is when so called live pto went into effect. Just my 2 cents. Bobby.

I understand that the D10/D12 used the same "block" of Serial Numbers and when a number was assigned to one model, it was not available to be used fro the other model; that is #2500 could be a D10 and #2501 could be a D12 (there would not be a D10-2500 and a D12-2500).

Live hyd power was available since the onset with the tractors that had the engine driven hydraulic pump (I have two D12's with this setup). Independent PTO became available in 1961.

If you do the math from the chart above and assume the 1959 and 1960 production was continious, there were 4419 D-10's built. The torque tubes are stamped D-10 or D-12 so I'm sure that there could be D-10's and D-12's with the same serial number.
What is confusing for some is the engine block flange is also stamped.
If the engine number is 10-xxx it is 138cu.in. If it is 12-xxx its 149 cu.in.
Some people think that the early D-12's have a D-10 engine because the engine number starts with a 10. I'm trying to figure out when in the 2000 serial number range the paint changed to PO#2 with cream grill and wheels. There are some factory painted bar grills that are correct in cream.
