does anyone know how well a one-ninety XT diesel would handle a 660 new Holland round baler? I desperatly need a tractor for my 660, and I found this one-ninety XT diesel for the right price, but I'd like to be sure it'll handle the baler before I buy it. Any thoughts on it would be appreciated. Thanks, Darrel

Yes a 190 will handle a 660. If you are in hilly country the brakes might lack a bit, also the use of the power director for live power will be a learning curve if your not used to it. I'm thinking the horsepower requirement for a 660 is around 90 and most XTs are running in the 100 range although they are rated at 93.

We used our 180 diesel on a Vermeer 605 baler until 1990. That is when my dad bought a green tractor with a cab.
The 180 did an excellent job.

If you bale in the great wide open the XT will be alright. I bale alot of little small pieces that require backing up occasionally. Stopping the baler backing up then restsarting it with a bale in the chamber is tough on the driveline. For me XT would be way down the list.

Last week I made 225 rounds with our 190 and Vermeer baler. Neither the tractor, haybine, and baler missed a beat. The 190 handled it fine, and we have some pretty good sized hills around. Two pictures will always be in my mind, One was on Thursday when I started, and two strips below my oldest son was raking with the D-17 and on Saturday my oldest son was pulling the goose neck with 11 bales on and my second oldest was pulling a wagon with 8 bales on. I should have taken pictures of both, was great. Hauled all home in 5 hours and under roof. Now today got 1.5 inches rain so far. Sorry for ramble, yes 190 will handle baler fine.

We pull our Case/IH 8430 with our 175 diesel. I cant think of anything that a bigger tractor would do better with that baler. Have a couple of sharp little hills but it goes up and down with no effort. Brakes are fine on the hills toore works good for me.

got a 630 new holland and 8420 case ih no pro blem with 190xt just have to get used to hi-lo

Dad custom baled for years with an 190xt gasser w/hydraulic PTO clutch and a 1500 Gehl baler. The tractor never did him wrong but the baler was lacking in the bearing area, otherwise a good baler. He wore a set of tires off that tractor and baled everything from flat open ground to hilly small fields to waterways and ditches. He never liked waterways and ditches. Broke an axle on the baler on that rough ground.

I run a NH 654 with either a 190XT or a 200. THe minimum hp for the 654 is about 70 if I remember correctly, while the 504G I had was 52HP min. No problem even on hills. The 7010 did a better job though.
