i recently aquired a 1950 allis chalmers b, and since i know absolutely nothing about tractors i would like some guidence. i would like to know if it has a 3pt hitch, or what to look for so i can get a brush hog and maybe something to push snow. it has a pto, but no hydraulic lines. it has a single plow with a disc that is lowered by a hand lever tilt and depth levers. i know this is a lot to ask for but it would be greatly apprieciated. thank you to anyone willing to help.

New here with a B also.  This is what the factory Hydraulic looks like.  Has a pump on left rear of PTO- (first picture)

Second picture shows after market hydraulic pump added to run off fan belt.  PTO is after market.  Have seen them (3pt hitch) selling from @380$ - to 600$.  Pump almost looks like a power steering assembly.

Most likely your PTO is the smaller (1-1/8") size and won't work with PTO driven implements unless you get an adapter. These tractors really aren't ideal for brushhogging compared to newer tractors with better hydraulic setups. PTO/hydro pump stops when the clutch is in.

We built a heavy duty 3 pt for ours, with a large cylinder like the one pictured above and the tractors high pressure pump the lift capacity is more than you could use without breaking stuff. I can post pictures if you wanted.

ACEP, my first suggestion would be to buy an Operator's Manual for your tractor. Some of the sponsors of this website offer them. After you read it, you'll have lots of questions which the folks on here will be happy to answer for you! Congratulations on your B - neat little tractor. Hope you have fun with it.

Bee's first picture shows lift arms for a Snap Couple set up which very few B's had. Many people have added 3pt to their B's with the original hydraulic pump as the power source. Most have found the front of the tractor to be light and need weight to pick up a bush hog mower but adding weight up front makes this possible.
The hand lift and plow might be as valuable to a collector as the 3pt would be to you. Take a picture of the back, right side of the PTO and post it here or email to me and I will post it. Then we can see what you have and what you will need to change. Charlie email is 1954w45@gmail.com

First,  Welcome to the Unofficial Allis Chalmers site.  You will find volumes of information on what you need here.  People are and will continue to be most helpful.  Remember, they don't make Allis Chalmers any more.  We have to do all we can to keep the name alive.

I am delighted to see that you have acquired my favorate Allis Chalmers Unit.  It does not have a three point hitch, and as said above attaching a lift and hyd that will lift a bush hog type mower can make the front very light.  Many on this site use Woods under belly mowers for their lawn.  However if you are looking for a rather heavy duty rotary mower you may want to look for a pull behind.  Be certain to check out an overruning clutch.  The rotary mower with the flywheel effect will have a tendance to keep your tractor moving after you have depressed the clutch.
Hyd systems can be obtained for what you have but send us pictures so that we can see just what you need.
In the meantime please be advised that you have obtained a very dependable well known tractor.  Let me again welcome you to the site and wish you the best of luck.
Good Luck!
Bill Long
ps:  I don't own any tractors.  This is a picture of me and my son at Union Bridge WI GOTO

It looks like you would need the hydraulic pump. If your tractor has the cam for it, it would be a simple bolt on change.

What about the possibility of his tractor being an earlier B than what he is told? Were the pumps not standard equipment on later models?

Blue brings up a good point, what is the serial number next to the shifter? Anything you want to know about this tractor you can find here on this site. Darins web store has manuals(top of the page click Allis Store) to help fix things and if you want a part for your tractor ,ask on here first and then try ebay.

acep, If you do wind up using a bush hog on this tractor, don't get one over 4' wide and be sure to get an overriding clutch to go on the PTO shaft. Tractors without live PTO can be pushed into a rock wall or a tree by the inertia of the bush hog even after you push the clutch. The overriding clutch helps prevent that. Bob@allisdowneast

To the right of your PTo shaft is where the pump goes.  I can't be sure, but it looks like you have the PTO assembly that cannot have the pump bolted on.  If there is a large ROUND plate there, you will have to change the entire PTO assembly.  IF the cover has 3 bolts, and 1 stud with a nut, then a pump can be added reasonably.
We have the pumps, and the hitches.  Feel free to call my toll free number 877-378-6543 tomorrow and I will be happy to walk you through any questions. I expect the phone to be busy though, as I have been gone for a week.

Looks like you have a 1939 according to the serial number (tractor number) you give.
(unless you forgot a number?) Easy to do with years of paint and crud.
You are right, this is the best AC site you will find, the guys (and gals) here are always more than willing to help, and you will always eventually get an answer.
As others have suggested, get yourself a manual, it will help a lot!

Also, you can locate the engine casting number, and using this site:
you can confirm what year tractor you have.
This is a way to see if your engine block is original to the tractor, or to see approximately what year your tractor is if there is no tractor number (like if the transmission was replaced at some point in its life) or if parts have been swapped out over time.
If the tractor number you give is correct, and its a 1939 your engine casting number should be AM 2916-11

You can do the same test with the engine serial number (not the casting number, which it different) which is located on the rear flange of the engine, where it bolts to the torque tube.

And BTW, check out Bryan's site http://people.clemson.edu/~wsmth/index.htm some more, he has some useful stuff there.

Welcome, and keep us posted on your progress!

There are 2 that will serve you well.  A parts manual will have a diagramof every part on the tractor.  Very handy.  The second is a factory service manual.  There is also an I&T brand manual, and we sell a lot of them, but by far, I prefer the Factory service manual.  It will provide complete tear-down and rebuild, plus all torque specs etc.

Yes.  If you can find originals, they are very expensive (usually).  They are reproductions of exactly what the mechanic would have had if you went to an AC dealer.
