Hello,

I'm from the Netherlands, that's why my English is not so good!

Here my questions:

Does anyone has a picture of the handcrank holder on the allis U? It is located on de right side under the radiator.
I Want to make it, but don't know houw it looks like.
And, does anyone know where I can find the"roller" and the linen curtain that is located at the front of the radiator as "thermostat"
( Pictures also welcome )

Thanks in advance,

Wot

Wot - I am not that familiar with the U but here are a couple links to pictures of a U done by David Maddux (he posts on here as well).   You can zoom in from the Photobucket web site to see the detail of crank handle holder on his.  I can't help with the radiator curtain.

U crank shoud be permanantly fixed in the radiator mount,  and the curtain is held in place either by 2 transverse sprung metal clips  or if the radiator has slotted channels either side, then is is fixed by one clip at the top and adjusted by means of the slotted channels.

M crawler is the same except the crank handle is detatchable......

This is the best pic I have of the slotted carrier type.....

Perfect! Thanks for your quick answers!

The crank holder should be no problem to make I think!
But the radiator curtain, is a bit difficult when I want to let it automaticly "roll up" or should it always ( and original ) be as on the pics? ( without roll )

Does also anyone know where I can buy the glass jar for the donaldson air cleaner. Mine is broken!
And the heat cap, on the excaust is gone by rust. Must this "plate" flat on the excaust or must there be a distance with "air" between excaust and this plate.

That were all my questions.... haha

Thanks again!!

Hi,

I thought maybe it is nice to show some pictures from our U.
As I said, we are restoring it.

Now the engine runs great! Not with the original gastank, but just to see if there are no leakages. ( new gaskets )

Everything is ok!

So now we can spray the hood, gas tank and fenders! And then it's ready to drive after 3 years standing still.

Hope you like it too!

Fred - Are those jars the same ones that came with screw-on lids back in the 30's and 40's? Must be lots of those around - thousands were made and used back then!

Wot - The paint work looks terrific - maybe you could hop over to the US and take on my painting projects???
