I have installed a GM internal regulator alternator on this tractor.  I have acquired the snap in/pigtail harness (diode built in) so that the one wire coming out of this pigtail goes right to the post on the back side of the alternator.
 
The other wire off of this pigtail harness...do I connect it to the tractor generator harness wire that has the large ring terminal?  What do I do with the other wire from this tractor generator harness?

You can replace the coil with a 12v coil and forget the ballast resistor.

Thanks for the help.  It is now working.  However, it is sending current up to 30 amps (as read on the amp gauge) when even at a mid-range engine speed.  Is this expected?  I didn't run it too long like this but did confirm the wire on the "batt" post of the alternator was starting to get warm.

I would charge the battery with a charger and make sure it is up all the way. Then run the tractor for 10 minutes and see if the rate of charge drops off. If it doesn't, I think you have a problem with your internal regulator.
