I put a new zenith carb on our 51 CA. It was working fine until tonight, the governor was hunting continually, and when I got off the tractor to look at the carb, it was leaking profusely. any help would be great.

Do you have the anti surge spring on the throttle rod? Where is it leaking from? Could be the float stuck or crud in the seat.

leak is coming from the bottom of the carb as well as from the rubber boot that comes from the air cleaner. I assume the anti surge spring is still there as it was working fine before. Thanks

I would say either the float drop was not right and the float got stuck on something so it can not close or you have a foreign object stuck in between the needle and seat.

Same sort of trouble I had with carb on the WD45. Clean the float valve and fine tune the float level. I adjusted mine to put a little more pressure on the float valve when the bowl is full.

I had same problem ,traced it to a pressurized gas cap. Pressure was overcomming float. Was especially bad when hot.

Sounds like junk in the float valve to me. If you're carefull, you maight be able to open it up without tearing the gasket. One thing I found on my CA with a Zenith carb was it had set for a long time and had fuel go bad and dry up in the tank, filter, and line. When I first got it running after rebuilding the carb, I was constantly fiddling with it. It never seemed to stay adjusted correctly. I had put a new sediment bowl on it, but reused the steel line. What I found was the hard crusty deposits you often find in the bottom of an old carburetor were also in the line. The vibration would break them free and create a restriction in various places in the carb. I fabricated a new line, cleaned the carb out, and haven't had any problems for the last 10 years.
If it were mine, I'd put a new sediment bowl on if you haven't already. Fab up a new line and clean the carb.

My CA did that on me once, leaking from the very same places you mention. Turns out there was a tiny brass burr that had gotten into the float bowl and was blocking the needle from completely closing. Probably came from a new brass fitting I had just put on the carb.
