D17 dist gear-worm gear lubrication?

   How is the distributor gear and worm gear lubricated, and also the hole  towards the top of the dist that has a plug that is removable whats it for and what lube do you use in it assuming it is for lubrication.  My neighbor has a wasted out wc the engine i think is loose other wise very poor does it have a value? thanks
