I hooked up my rototiller to the WD and as the tiller dug in I got loud knocking noise in what I think is the PTO box under the transmission. What's going on? I shut it down after a couple minutes. Did not get worse nor better until I shut off the PTO..then all quiet.
This PTO really hasn't been worked that hard..if at all. I've known this tractor since 1952. |

I would plan on draining the tranny some time and drop the PTO box to have a look at the gears and bearings. It could be a bad bearing or maybe a chipped tooth on a gear???
