Anyone know where to buy long lug bolts? I think they are 9/16" 18 thread. My D17 has some stripped lug bolt holes and I was going to run some long lug bolts through them and put a nut on the backside. Tried Napa and have been looking online with no results. thanks.

Fastenal shows lug bolts. I don't know if they have many in 9/16". Maybe you can find some studs to fit in the stripped holes.

Eldon, they're bolted up. I did it Monday night, but I have to address the lug bolt issure before I take her out and actually get to play!! I have to adjust them in a hair. I just got it back into my garage, but now I got to either go over it or out the side door to get out. She's a wide mother!!

I don't know if studs will help, I was looking up manifold studs for the D14 today, look at this page. I am not ready to pay 4.00 for a .49 cent stud.

Chuck the reason they were set all the way out is because on the 170/175 the hubs are not threaded and use long bolts with nuts. You can only get to the nuts if the wheels are all the way out....I guess you could go that route. Drill out the hubs and use 170 hardware. Probably why they were changed to bolts and nuts.....

I was wrong, Fastenal shows ONE 1/2" lug bolt. They show one long 9/16 press in stud. Looks like the hole for the pressed in part is bigger than the stud.
McMaster-Carr has none. NAPA was my first guess. If not a long lug bolt or a stud, how about a regular bolt with the head behind the flange and a coned lug nut? Gerald J. |

I work at a JD dealer in parts and I think have what you need. I'll check tomorrow at work and post here the length and price.

CALL Fastenal. They can get almost anything, and are cheaper than Grainger etc...

On myD17 I had some bad threads on one side and tried NAPA as you did, so I got bolts from them and ran them with the head on the back then was able to get lug nuts to run against the wheel that was 10 yrs. ago, still going strong. Cal in Ct.

I have yet to find fastenal cheaper on anything and we have one in town. Almost always you have to buy a whole bag. J.D. has beat them 3 times on the odd bolts I needed for my AC's. |

My Fastenal catalog only show ONE wheel bolt and its 1/2". They do have four different lug nuts in 5/8-18, two with a 60 degree cone, and two with a 90 degree cone, one with a 7/8" hex, and two with 1-1/16" hex. NAPA probably has a bigger selection of nuts sold one at a time. The local Fastenall stocks a tiny fraction of what is in the catalog. Stock answer, we can get it, sometimes that means paying freight too.

I did what Cal did. Run bolts through from the back of the hub & use lug nuts on the front. Did this on a couple of my pullers just so I could use some chrome lug nuts! |
