190 temp gauge

Over the past year the temp gauge on my 190 has begun to read low, is it the gauge or the sending unit? Is there a way to test it?

ground out the wire going to sender with key on. should read max hot. if does then you have a sender problem or a thermostat that is stuck open if not warming up!
