 Topic: Selling Allis collection

I am thinking about selling my collection of Allis Tractors and equipment. Simply put, I am interested in what the forum members think is a good way to accomplish this. I would prefer to sell as a whole package. I believe that the package would be in the $50,000.00 range. Not sure if that is big enough to hold a sale. I would prefer to not cost the buyer sales and or e-bay fees. Any thoughts appreciated. I am exploring options at this time. Ron

I'd think that selling it in a lump would take the longest time and bring the least amount but you never know, only takes one guy with the money and the want and it's sold, nice and clean deal. If I needed to sell I would probaly list the stuff in places like the OAN and the internet sites and if it didnt sell I go with Aumann, either in my own sale or on consignment. I agree that E-bay woud be my last choice for items worth a lot of money especialy if selling quitea few items. Good luck.

I had a collection of unwanted stuff after the second wife left. I had an auction, and everything I didn't want was gone that day. The auctioneer cut me a check on the spot and it was a done deal. As far as I'm concerned, that is the only way to go.

My father in law did some parts trading for Model T Fords, years back, just as the internet stuff was taking hold. Also had several nice cars. He sold that whole operation at a small auction.
Probably could have dribbled out the better parts and cars on Ebay/ Hemmings over a long haul and got more money but it would have been a long process.

Ron, I would certainly consult with Kurt Aumann. He could let you know what your options are as far as having an auction or consigning the collection at the Thanksgiving auction in Taylorville. He might also be able to broker a sale with a person that is financially capable of doing what you are proposing. I'm sure it would be worth a phone call. Kurt's knowledge of the hobby and tractors is probably tops in the business.

I have had two public auctions in my time. One was a farm sale, machinery, cows, etc.
The other was my Allis Chalmers tractor collection, now nearly two years ago.
Some will sell higher than you thought and others will see lower than you thought
but the net at the end will be just right.
Yes, Kurt Aumman is the man, he came from Illinois to Virginia to do my sale.
He and his staff were just great to work with.
When he brings buyers in from Ireland, to my sale that is saying something.

I agree with Butch,John&John . Ron the only way to do this is Through Aumman.I have been to a few of his auctions and he knows what he is doing.No one is going to bring you more money than him.Like what was posted earlier,they come to you,load it up mostly themselves,pay you for it and leave.All in a day or two,sounds like a good deal.I am sure you could get more selling individually,but who has that kind of time.Maybe someone could buy it all ,but how many people could afford that.
Have an Aumman auction and all your orange friends will come and visit.If nothing else it will be like a big party.I know I would make the trip.

I appreciate the replies, I guess to add to what was replied and more as as a question, I don't fell like I have anything collectable that someone would come over the pond for. I have basically the following: D-10 thru D-21, duplicates of some, wd45 with mounted picker and quite a few implements in addition to the tractors. If the total value is in the 50 Thousand range that is the price of a nice pickup, not so far out of someone's budget if they want a collection. I will post what I decide. Ron

Ron, you might also consider adding consignments to an auction to increase the draw. Adding a half dozen tractors and some implements and collectibles could be the difference between having 100 people come to the auction and having 400 people come to the auction. It's a little far for me to haul too much down, but I would be interested in bring a few pieces to an Allis only auction.
Once again, Kurt Aumann is the man and he could work with you on adding consignments to your auction.

All of these are good suggestions. The only one I would add is to advertise here on the AC forum. You have a captive audience of AC collectors. The trade off is lower cost to you here versus the relative ease and "hands-off" of an auction. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing your list. Being in Illinois, I'll be a customer.
