Got the newest issue of TRACTOR SHOP and they have a great write up on the AGCOSTAR tractor and its past life that CAT took away; it says- throughout its production the  AGCOSTAR came in 3 different paint schemes -DEPENDING ON YOUR LOYALTIES- Agco orange, White brand silver, or Massey red; now is it really that hard Agco ???? Somone used to give a crap anyway !!

Actually they were only sold in a silver color.  I have seen pictures of a red one.  Many dealers asked for special colors but as far as I have been told by the dealers that sold them, they built the one red one and never built any others.  Also the line was discontinued several years before the 4x4 Cat came out.  It really was not taken away by Cat.  They discontinued the line claiming they didnt fit in the market place with the competition(atleast thats what a guy from AGCO told me), but they did fill a niche market.  It is  too bad they didnt keep it going.  Dealers that had the line seemed to do well with them.

As far as I know, they were silver.  The hood stripes had several colors for the various predecessor brands.
they were a good unit but not a big seller.
It was actually a Massey tractor to begin with.  They sold the line to a potato equipment company Mconnel who later sold it to Agco.

The Challenger 4x4 had nothing to do with the the AGCOSTAR. That tractor was originally a MF and was just rebranded to the AGCOSTAR. But there are too many years between the two models and it was a complete different design team.

If they would have had the sense to make them available to each brand and not a separate contract they might have been surprised how many dealers would have got on board and really sold them. The large tractors are what are selling around here.  There seems to be an ample supply of new and low hour 150 to 250 hp FWA tractors.  Agco was purposely ignoring a large share of the market in order to kill off the orange line it looks to me. I would have been quite excited to have an orange tractor to choose from when we purchased the last 3 4WD tractors and the track tractor.
If it weren't for the last minute, I wouldn't get anything done!

Right after the Agcostar was announced, I had an opportunity to visit the Gleaner factory in Kansas City. The new Agco-Allis, Massey-Ferguson and Agcostar tractors were produced there.
Agcostar serial#2 was out in the lot and they let me sit in it. Was offered to drive it around the lot but passed. (Idiot me)
It was also very impressive to see all the Gleaners and tractors in the lot ready for shipment.
A very memorable experience for me.

Don't kid yourself.
Big companies only care about their profits and bonuses and keeping their stock holders happy.
They put on a good public relation show but it's not sincere.
It's just something they have to do.
If you walk away mad they say don't let the door hit you in the poor word choice on the way out.

It's not a word but you get the message.
 
I read that phrase in the new all the time.

We have an AGCOstar at work here.  It was always a good tractor.  Maybe not as many crature comforts, but still pretty solid tractor.  They are trying to sell it now.  I was thinking they were asking $63,000 or something like that (don't quote me on that price).  Seems cheap to me for a tractor that size.  It has been maintained well and was only used to put NH3 on in the spring.

I thought they were crude compared to Deere and Case IH. It looked like an updated Belarus.

Agcostar was a unique design that Massey first made in Canada.   The Cummins engineers always called them the McConnell tractor after a businessman who bought the right to sold it from Massey, he shopped for partners for a while.   That was the only place I ever heard of them except for mention in Norm's book.   It was an old design even when Agco sold it.  Used a lot of unique parts compared to other White or MF models.
