not familar with the 7000 series tractors, I'm looking at buying one. my question is how can you tell if the tractor has a 1000 pto shaft or one that interchanges with a 540 and how big of job is it to change. I need a tractor that has 125 hp-150hp. but still want a 540 pto. most i've looked at have a 1000 pto, but some are listed on the web with both.

On the tractors equiped with 540/1000 rpm shafts there will be a reverseable stub shaft.

According to 7000 series sales literature the 540/1000 pto was standard on the 7020 only. The 7045 and 7060 it was an option. Most 7045's/7060's had the dual pto set-up (our 7045 does). It is a dual shaft set-up with an arrangement of bolt holes on the flange and the inner and outer ring of the housing. Simply remove bolts and pull shaft out and flip around and line holes back up and tighten. The 7080 has the single big 1000 shaft. In the HP range you are looking for I'm sure you will find a dual pto set up, more likely on a 7045 out of the 7000 series, I'm sure there are plenty of 7060's with the dual set-up as well. It is also a dry type housing which elimnates oil loss.

Orange power, we are thinking of replacing our 7045 with something else. Its a 1979 model XX-PowerDirector Trans. AM/FM stereo, Stadium Lights, Cab, 540/1000 PTO, 20.8-38 Radial Firestones with clamp-on duals. 6,629 hrs. engine overhauled at 4,888 hrs. with new turbo, chrome stack, new batteries a week ago. Runs our planter in spring and hauls wagons in the fall and runs 18ft batwing over stalks. Has not seen any heavy tillage work in 8 years, starts up on a dime. Heres some pictures. I think ac_browsers just about covered it, I don't think I've ever seen a 7000 series other than the 7080's without the dual pto's, so I suppose the dual setup is more common. It is around here, at least. Both of my 7060's have dual pto's.

I have a 7030 with dual pto, 7050 with straight 1000, 7060 with dual pto, and a 7060 with straight 1000. You can change out the 540/1000 pto for a straight 1000, but the straight 1000 is missing the upper 540 gear that you would have to add. Right now Im running a 7050 and 7060 both straight 1000.
